How Can You Find a Hidden Leak, Use a Thermal Imaging Camera

June 29th, 2012 · No Comments

Charlotte Home Inspector Preston Sandlin of Home Inspection Carolina recently found some moisture stains on the rear living room baseboard and it wasn’t very apparent what caused it.  There was no bathrooms close by.  The adjoining wall did have a kitchen but it wasn’t the wall the had the sink.  It was the wall that had the oven. Well there is this moisture stain on this wall but there is no apparent reason for it. Well Preston ran hot water for about 20 minutes and then used a thermal infrared camera to find that that the drain pipe was coming down that wall and that there was a leak at the top of the pipe.  When the contractors installed the microwave they pierced the drain pipe coming from the upstairs.
