Decorating Like a Boss : The Cottage-Style House

April 20th, 2013 · No Comments

There are houses that make you feel out of place, where you could not seem to sit down because it is just so damn uncomfortable. But there are also houses that are so comfortable, you don’t want to leave.

A bit of styling will bring any dreary room this kind of feel. This kind of home styling is called the Cottage Style of decorating.

This décor is made up of distressed painted furniture, light fabrics and accessories and soft-hued paint.

Think comfort when designing your room and maybe you could not include those bulky furniture that has strong and bold prints. You can get a couch for example, but make it look softer by covering it with flowery fabrics with frills.   Going for the solid colors is also a good idea and you can make up for it with the accessories.

Get one major furniture like a dresser. The ones that looks all disheveled, will be perfect for the look you are aiming for.

Be creative and turn an old door into a headboard. All you have to do is turn the door sideways place it nicely as headboard. To stay within bounds of the theme you are after, give it a distressed finish.

You can do the distressed looks yourself by following simple instructions online or in books.

For big and bulky furniture you can ask help from companies like American Direct Logistics who does the moving and assembling of furniture.

You can also buy chandeliers and lamps as an add on to your home styling. You can always get those that are inexpensive. In fact you can get them in flea markets and give it a good rusty, old look. To give brass materials that rusty look, spray paint it with the rust color and finish it off by sponging dark brown paint.

With the basic furniture and technique down, it would now be easy to get the effect you want in your home. You can scrimp on curtains or on pillowcases or in shrugs, but spend a little more on your blankets and utensils and plates.
